While grinding it out, the Pittsburgh Pirates still carve out time for the important things in life – bubble baths, breakfast and beating cancer.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are working to dig out of a deep hole. And they know it. And while I’m sure any team would rather be in the Cubs’ position right now than having to claw and fight just to earn a wildcard spot, it’s obvious that the love of the game is still with the Buccos. Gregory Polanco, who has been blossoming as a team leader – not just on the field, but off the field the way he is fielding media interviews and stepping up to shoulder responsibilities – says it best.

Minor league teams see their rosters plundered come September. The Indianapolis Indians had a message for the Pirates about the pitchers who found themselves making it to the show this season.

One of those call-ups, who is still trying to get a number in that W column for the Pirates, is loving Pittsburgh.

Throwback Thursday posts are always fun as they help us get to know folks back in their “other lives” and younger days. Juan Nicasio’s this week showed a stunning transformation from a skinny kid to a hulking baseballer.

Football season is upon us, and even baseball players deep in the hunt for a playoff berth are excited. Jameson Taillon spent some time this morning enveloped in the pigskin.
I've missed my weekend mornings being 100% consumed by tinkering fantasy lineups #rosternirvana

In the pre-game ritual department, some players play a little soccer in the outfield, some meditate, some visit the trainer. Neftali Feliz? Well, he likes his bubble baths…

There aren’t just pre-game rituals, though, postgame ones are just as important. For Ivan Nova, who pitched his second complete game for the Pirates since joining the team in August, it’s about saying thanks.

Alen Hanson shares that sentiment, thankful once more to be back in the show.

By now we’ve all seen the footage of that emotional moment between Trevor Williams and his family. Before he even took the field, his wife, Jackie, shared this touching note about his debut:

Trevor gave several post game interviews about the scene, and later shared this on social media:
Last night was a night my family and I will never forget. Thank you to everybody that has reached out. I am extremely grateful #BUCN #RC21

But it was his son, Ike, who wins Twitter.

He and his family are settling in to Pittsburgh and like everyone else, always looking for a great breakfast joint. This time, Ike was dressed for the occasion!

Rookie Adam Frazier is wasting no time getting involved in good causes and using his new position in the bigs with the Pittsburgh Pirates to raise awareness. He posted this Intsagram yesterday in support of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Campbell Dale is a young man embraced by athletes at Mississippi State University who died from cancer in Sept. 2015. Frazier attended the university.

And this week’s inspirational award is split. First honors go to Francisco Cervelli for always having that fire and determination. And for the flaring nostrils. Always the flaring nostrils.

The second award goes to Andrew McCutchen for the most fire subtweet of all time!

He also shared more about how growing up in the Pirates system helped shape his view of service and Clemente with us in this article about how the Pirates celebrated Roberto Clemente Day.
That’s about all this week for the Pirates’ Social Media Round-Up. The Bucs try to take the lead in this series today against the Reds at 7:05 p.m. Have a great weekend and #LetsGoBucs
