Pittsburgh Pirates Social Media Round-Up: Staying Positive

There’s no other way to put it than this – the Pittsburgh Pirates don’t seem to be having fun playing baseball right now.

And Pittsburgh Pirates fans don’t really seem to be having fun watching baseball right now. So let’s try to bring the fun back, shall we?

Are you ready? Okay – let’s do this!

It’s no secret that the Pirates are very supportive of the greater Pittsburgh community. It showed this week when Jared Hughes, Andrew McCutchen, their wives and other Pirates representatives spent some time the the Pittsburgh Children’s Institute, which is dedicated to promoting the well-being of young people and their families and providing services to meet their special needs.

Cutch even starred in this lucky young woman’s Snap Story

Another well-known fact is that Pittsburgh sports teams support each other. We saw it throughout the Stanley cup playoffs and finals, and this week, we also saw it in PNC Park, when rookies from the Steelers training camp took in a game.

And while we’re on the topic of sports, on Wednesday, the Pirates hosted Legends of Wrestling night at the Park, featuring some well, wrestling legends.

The Pierogies didn’t much seem to enjoy it, although everyone else had a great time visiting with former wrestling greats and getting autographs and photos.

A very dapper-dressed Mark Melancon gave a shout-out to his college team in advance of their NCAA College World Series run.

And because we’re on the subject, we’re going to help Jared Hughes out and include this tweet for posterity:

Hughes might have a little competition on the photography front from rookie pitcher Jameson Taillon, who snapped this classic Pittsburgh shot Wednesday.

Pitcher Juan Nicasio was put on the restricted list earlier this week according to the Pirates. While no real details were given, the team shared that it was not a punative measure and there was a personal reason he needed to go back home to address. It’s is now rumored that he could be back to the team, in the bullpen soon. Nicasio posted a few photos to his Instagram with a couple of adorable kids in the last few days – here’s hoping everything has been worked out, whatever it was.

The Pirates hosted Family Day for players Thursday and the photos on Twitter and Instagram could not have been more entertaining and heartwarming:

Also heartwarming, these posts from players honoring their dads on Father’s Day:

(Translation: Happy day to the world’s best dad, in love with his granddaughter. @cervellimanuel Happy Father’s day.)

That’s Cervelli’s niece, Emilia, just in case you were curious…

That does it for this week’s social media roundup.
