Pittsburgh Pirates Social Media Round-up: Brothers, Breakfast and Birthdays

The Pittsburgh Pirates Shake Out the Cobwebs and Celebrate Some Good Times

Because of the business of baseball, teammates change during a season. That means making new friends and connections in a new clubhouse and a new city. But sometimes – not everything is new. Pitcher Ivan Nova is another in the Pirates’ long line of Yankees exports – and fortunately for him, that means reconnecting with his former catchers. Nothing sums up the bond pitchers and catchers have better than his Insta after pitching his fourth complete game – his first in a Buccos uniform.

(Translation: Grateful to God first and then my baby brother for this tremendous game!!!)

The feeling is mutual.

(Translation: My big brother)

And sometimes when those former teammates end up on opposing teams, that brotherhood still remains – like that time former Indy Indians teammate Keon Broxton video-bombed Josh Bell‘s appearance on the MLB Chatting Cage (view the video here – Broxton shows up at about 2:24).

Then there is the ULTIMATE home team. We’ve written before about Gregory Polanco‘s deep devotion to his family and his mom’s love of Nordstrom – but now we’re learning even more about that mother/son bond. According to his Instagram – he really loves hitting dingers when his mom is there to see it…

I vote that Mama Polanco become the official Pirates Team Mom and goes to every game for the remainder of the season (and then, the post season). All in favor…

In-keeping with a lovely tradition of soccer in the outfield as a warm-up/workout started by Russell Martin a few years back at PNC, Felipe Rivero got in a few kicks on the “pitch” recently. One question – what’s the secret stuff?

Jared Hughes was also getting in a little conditioning – training his internal clock for the road trip – and found an entire new genre of music. One has to wonder if he’s also thinking of taking up accordion…could become a new clubhouse thing.

Meanwhile, Jameson Taillon (who also spent a lot of time watching the Olympics these past few weeks) is just trying to eat his breakfast and people think he’s conditioning…

Pirates Breakdown wants to extend our sincerest Happy Birthday wishes to Pirates shortstop Jordy Mercer! And thanks for that Grand Slam birthday present you gave to the ‘Burgh!

We leave you today with some words of wisdom from Starling Marte:

(Translation: The success in life is not always winning, but don’t give up. Every day life offers a new opportunity, it’s called “today.” Enthusiasm and optimism are the legs of life, discouragement and disappointments are the barriers, envy and evil are the oil slick on the pavement and our dreams the engine. #GodHasControl) So, he’s sorta quoting Carrie Underwood here…

That’s about all this week for the Pirates’ Social Media Round-Up. The Bucs try to win the series today against the Brewers at 7:10 p.m. Have a great weekend and #LetsGoBucs
