Pittsburgh Pirates Social Media Round-up: From PA to SD, the Buccos Ready for the Road Ahead

Pittsburgh Pirates All Stars and All Star Vacationers Relax and Recharge for Next Half

The nightmare that was two full summer days without baseball is now behind us. The Pittsburgh Pirates will now get started on their “second half” of 2016.

It’s time for Buccos fans to settle in for the second half of this 2016 season, which, in typical Pirates fashion, will be pivotal in the team’s hunt for post-season action. That doesn’t mean that we can’t spend a few more minutes, however, looking back at the week that was on Pirates social media.

The All-Star break afforded the guys some much-needed rest and recuperation from the arduous first half of the season. And they really took advantage of it…

Jared Hughes stayed local for the break – visiting some sites around western and central Pennsylvania.

The rehabbing Francisco Cervelli starred in a new ad campaign for New Balance.

And Andrew McCutchen showed off some new cap styles as well.

John Jaso also took in some history, getting a jump start on the time in DC by sightseeing and taking advantage of the numerous museums in the nation’s capital.

With Pittsburgh being so close to Seven Springs Mountain Resort, a lot of Pirates players head there for some R&R – like Sean Rodriguez and his beautiful family and Matty Joyce and his, er…furry family.

Of course, while the rest of the team was out relaxing, Starling Marte and Mark Melancon were grinding it out in San Diego, representing the team and the National League in the All Star Game.

Mark Melancon is always a good follow on Twitter and Instagram and he worked extra hard to share his experience at the ASG with followers.

Perhaps even bigger All Stars than the Pirates closer were his kids, who were by dad’s side along for every memorable moment – even signing autographs, and throwing a fit or two, on the red carpet.

After a wild week of final fan voting, outfielder Starling Marte came in a close second to make the All Star Team, but ended up in San Diego, where he belonged, as an injury replacement for Yoenis Cespedes.

His family flew with the Melancons to San Diego and by the looks of it, his boys are experts in chill travel.

He kept the family vibe going out on the field – meeting up with some of his fellow Dominicans and their kids for some photo opps.

And celebrated getting a hit!

Of course, fellow Pirates teammates cheered them on from vacay.

And we’d be remiss if we left out the Pirate Parrot – who was also taking in the All-Star festivities…

Baseball is never that far from any player’s mind, regardless, and rookie pitcher Chad Kuhl, who starts in Sunday’s series finale against the Nats, shared a photo of some very meaningful balls added to his collection recently:

Fellow starter Jameson Taillon spent the downtime working on his form.

And now for some random social media posts too good to not post…

In the “apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” category – check out this adorable split screen shot of Juan Nicasio and his little boy:

Avid outdoorsman Jordy Mercer reminds everyone in Buccoland to take advantage of next Wednesday night’s (July 24) unique promotion at PNC.

And in a somber note, we here at Pirates Breakdown send our sincerest condolences to Pirates broadcaster Greg Brown on the loss of his mother. We’re keeping you in our thoughts, Brownie.

That’s what’s happening in the Pirates’ social media world this week. The Bucs take on the Nationals tonight at 7:05 p.m. Happy Baseball is Back weekend and #LetsGoBucs
