Pittsburgh Pirates Social Media Roundup – St. Patrick’s and Music

A busy week of transactions leads to a quiet week on social media for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The boys in black and gold were pretty quiet on social media this week, opting instead to focus, one suspects, on spring training as the cuts have started and the real work is beginning. Or maybe, as Andrew McCutchen tweeted, they’re just at a loss for words.

Spring training means the players ditch the convenience of airplane rides to competing ballparks in favor of the more minor league mode of travel: chartered buses. Gregory Polanco, however, makes the best of it, chilling with his buddies in the back, cool-kid style.

The Pirate Parrot was also spending some time hanging out with his buddy Jordy Mercer, tossing around the ol’ pigskin, that is, until Josh Harrison decided to go all Willie Gay on them.

Mark Melancon tweeted out his support for a great cancer charity, St. Baldrick’s Foundation, which helps raise money to “conquer childhood cancers” by having people shave their heads. Typically these events happen around St. Patrick’s Day, but there is no comment or photos yet to confirm whether or not Mark is simply donating money or participating in some capacity in the event himself.

Speaking of St. Patrick’s Day, the guys hung up the black and gold for the day in favor of a shamrock sail and green uniforms to boot.

And while pitcher Eric O’Flaherty’s fate on the team isn’t decided yet, man did that name look good on those green jerseys.

The Harrisons and McCutchens are wearing some swanky new jewelry thanks to 7-year-old model Gaby Moreno, who sold them the exclusive black and gold pieces yesterday evening.

Jung Ho Kang is still rehabbing his broken leg, and on a promo spot for a special on Korean MLB Players to air on sports channel MBC Sports Plus on March 28th, he vowed (JOKINGLY) to avenge his injury.

The special brings together Korean players in Major League Baseball and shows them kidding around with each other and, according to our source for all info on Korean players in the MLB, Joseph Kim, making all sorts of entertaining Korean cultural references.

Speaking of Kang and his fellow countrymen, today he got to see his former teammate Byung-ho Park as the Bucs prepare to take on the Minnesota Twins.

Cutch is constantly referenced as “the face” of the Pirates franchise, and it’s easy to see why. But lately, catcher Francisco Cervelli has been nipping at his heels as the star of a series of images promoting the upcoming season.

Speaking of Cutch, he and utilityman Sean Rodriguez have the same taste in music, both enjoying the new release by Christian rapper Tedashii.

And Tedashii approves.

Starling Marte was also jamming out lately, along with minor league outfielder Willy Garcia, to Dominican artist Dioli.

I wonder if he plays that tune in this Mercedes he recently picked up (without the Avorza rims) from car detailer to the baseball stars Alex Vega (read more about him and the clients he serves here).

With just a few weeks of spring training left, it will be exciting to see what the guys get into next week.
