In our daily Wake-Up Call, we get you ready for the day with a complete look at all things Pittsburgh Pirates.
Starling Marte‘s stay in the Dominican Winter League has come to an end.
The Pirates pulled the plug on Marte’s Winter Ball season thanks to a left hand injury.
The injury doesn’t appear to be anything serious and it is being described as just a cut on his hand, but the Bucs are wisely being cautious with Marte.
Marte, who was playing with Leones del Escogido, got off to a very slow start in Winter Ball, but was heating up as of late and finished with a .255/.310/.396 line. He smacked two home runs, three doubles and three triples in 117 plate appearances. He also swiped eight bags.
He was only supposed to play a few more days anyways and would have needed permission from the Pirates to play in the playoffs.
Marte is looking to bounce back from a very disappointing 2017 season that featured an 80-game suspension along with a .275/.333/.379 with seven home runs and 21 stolen bases in 77 games.
