The Pittsburgh Pirates finally won a game in Miller Park, defeating the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2 in ten innings.
Andrew McCutchen drove in all three of the Pirates’ runs tonight as they take the first game of this series.
Takeaways
- Chad Kuhl was extremely efficient tonight going six and one third innings, giving up two earned runs. After throwing six scoreless, Kuhl came out for the seventh recording only one out before being pulled after giving up a two run home run to Kirk Nieuwenhuis. That being said, Kuhl delivered yet another quality start. He now has six quality starts out of his eight in his young career. Felipe Rivero did a nice job of cleaning up Kuhl’s mess in the seventh inning, coming in with a man on second with one out, and preventing the run.
- Andrew McCutchen supplied all of the offense for the Pirates tonight hitting a solo home run in the first inning and an RBI single in the third, and the go-ahead RBI single in the tenth. It was his 18th home run of the year. Josh Bell also had a nice night at the plate drawing three walks in four at bats. Bell now has six walks in 23 plate appearances. Not bad for the rookie considering his team’s leadoff hitter, Josh Harrison, has 15 walks in 450 at bats.
- The bullpen had another solid night tossing 3.2 scoreless innings. Tony Watson earned his eighth save of the year. Neftali Feliz struck out the side in the eight inning.
Throwaways
- David Freese struggled at the plate tonight going 0-4 striking out twice. Freese has only six hits in his last 37 at bats, including 15 strikeouts.
- The Pirate offense besides McCutchen did not produce tonight, collecting only four hits.
W – Bastardo (2-0)
L – Carlos Torres (2-3)
S – Tony Watson (8)
Line of the Day
