In our daily Wake-Up Call, we get you ready for the day with a complete look at all things Pittsburgh Pirates.
It has been a week of soundbites from the Bucs to fuel the fans desire for change and Pittsburgh Pirates owner Bob Nutting chimed in with a doozy on Monday.
Nutting spoke to the team before the first full-squad workout of spring training and told the team that they are here to win.
“Bob’s message to the team was, in my hearing, similar to messages he’s given in the past: ‘We’re here to win,'” Pirates general manager Neal Huntington said. “We’re here to bring World Series championship No. 6 back to Pittsburgh. We’re here to help these guys be great. We’re here to provide them with resources and to help them do their jobs to the best of their ability. We’re all in this thing together, with one vision and one goal.”
While plenty of fans and sports writers alike are tired of hearing that from Nutting and the rest of the front office while their actions don’t back up their words, in reality, what else was he going to say to his team?
Now that his one speech is out of the way, Nutting will go back into the shadows and not answer any questions or speak to anyone until this time next season.
Opening Day 8 take fielding practice
We may already have gotten a look at what the Opening Day 8 will look like baring any sort of minor move.
In the Bucs main group of fielding practice yesterday, we got a look of what a potential starting lineup may look like.
Colin Moran at third and Adam Frazier and Jordan Luplow sharing in left field. Other than that, the usual suspects were taking reps at their positions.
#Pirates top group of fielders:
C: Cervelli/Diaz/Stallings
1B: Bell/Nava
2B: Harrison/Kramer
SS: Mercer/Tucker
3B: Moran/FreeseLF: Frazier/Luplow
CF: Marte
RF: PolancoCan’t read everything into that with a few guys missing from the mix, but looks close to an OD 8.
