In our daily Wake-Up Call, we get you ready for the day with a complete look at all things Pittsburgh Pirates.
DRAMA!
The Pittsburgh Pirates lost to the Washington Nationals 10-7 yesterday. The game was a slugfest that took over four hours to play. The biggest takeaway from the game was the classic baseball brawl that broke out when National’s pitcher A.J. Cole threw behind Jung Ho Kang. Cole was angry because earlier in the game, Kang did a fake tag that resulted in Bryce Harper injuring himself while sliding into third.
The fight didn’t get overly violent but it took several Pirates to restrain Sean Rodriguez, who apparently wanted to fight the entire Nationals team. Despite the fight, the Pirates weren’t able to earn a victory as the Nationals came back and scored a lot late to win the game.
The catalyst of the fight was also the winner of our Player of the Game Poll:

Team Israel Moves On
Not directly Pirates related but team Israel beat Team Great Britain 9-1 to qualify for the 2017 World Baseball Classic. Israel’s roster featured former Pirates’ first baseman Ike Davis and current pitching prospect Jared Lakind.
It was a big victory for Team Israel as they qualify for their first World Baseball Classic. Israel came close to qualifying in 2013 before losing in the final to team Brazil. The make-up of the roster is mostly made up of American-Jewish baseball players but I am sure it’s still an honor to represent the Jewish homeland.
The 2017 World Baseball Classic begins on March 9th in Seol, Sout Korea, Tokyo Japan and Miami, Florida.
