Pittsburgh Pirates Wake Up Call – Glasnow’s Changing Stock

In our daily Wake-Up Call, we get you ready for the day with a complete look at all things Pittsburgh Pirates.

With the latest news regarding the Pittsburgh Pirates talking with the Chicago White Sox about left handed starter Jose Quintana, a ton of people have tried to determine who could be dealt in a package for the southpaw.

In fact, our very own Jason Rollison took a look at some of the prospects that could be involved in a trade for Quintana.

One of the names on Jason’s list of Pirates prospects that the team would “Think Long and Hard” about was right handed pitcher Tyler Glasnow, who has been considered one of the best overall prospects in all of baseball throughout the last few years.

The public opinion on Glasnow has changed drastically over the last year. At this time last year, Glasnow was viewed as being an untouchable prospect who was bound to be an integral part of the Pirates rotation for years to come. Though that is still a possibility and he is still highly touted, he’s not necessarily viewed by fans as being untouchable anymore.

To see how willing Pirates fans would be to see Glasnow traded, we took to twitter. In our latest Twitter poll, we asked our followers if they would be willing to trade a package that included Glasnow to acquire Quintana from the White Sox and the results clearly swayed one way over the other.

If this question was asked last offseason, the results most likely would have been the other way around.

It’s amazing to see how much more willing people are to deal Glasnow this year than they would have been last year. I’m sure it’s mainly because of the Pirates need for a veteran arm than an urge to want to give up on Glasnow, but it’s very interesting to see how his stock has changed in only a year.

If you ask me, I consider Austin Meadows and Josh Bell as the only two untouchable young players when it comes to a potential trade. I think the Pirates have the pieces to make a deal for Quintana work and I guess it is possible that Glasnow could indeed be a part of it.
