Pittsburgh Pirates Wake Up Call – A Smelly Brand of Baseball

In our daily Wake-Up Call, we get you ready for the day with a complete look at all things Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pittsburgh Pirates Look For a New Lease On Life

After their day off yesterday, the Pittsburgh Pirates look to start the season anew. Unfortunately, they will face some stiff tests out of the gate.

Today marks the beginning of a three-game slate against the New York Mets, followed by three games at Wrigley against Jake Arrieta and the Chicago Cubs. Then an eight-game homestand follows, with four each against the Dodgers and Giants.

It’s doubtful that the club will find a more difficult stretch of games during this season. To be sure, there are some winnable games here. Despite their front line pitching talent, the Mets’ – or more accurately, the Mets’ offense – are a beatable team. The Dodgers haven’t quite put it all together at any point this season, and this incarnation of the frequent NL West champions may be its weakest in memory.

For the Pirates, the games against the Mets and Dodgers take on more importance than those against the Cubs and Giants. In what is sure to be a potentially jumbled National League playoff picture, stacking wins against those teams that figure to be the main competition for the Wild Card game is invaluable.

A Smelly Brand Of Baseball

This one isn’t bad too. Have a listen, and see below for ways to subscribe to the show so that you get the latest episodes automatically.
