In our daily Wake-Up Call, we get you ready for the day with a complete look at all things Pittsburgh Pirates.
Still Waiting
The Holidays are over and that means we are officially in the dog days of winter. While this means we are mostly in store for bitter cold and lots of snow, it also means baseball isn’t completely far away! However, despite being around six weeks from Pitcher and Catchers reporting, the Pittsburgh Pirates are standing still.
The Pirates entered this offseason with some potential big moves on the block. However, it’s now 2018 and Gerrit Cole, Josh Harrison, and Andrew McCutchen are still Pirates. Normally that would be a cause for celebration as those players are talented and would help the Pirates win some games in the coming season. However, the Pirates are coming off back-to-back losing seasons and a rebuild seems like the best option.
Neal Huntington seems forever content with ALMOST making the big move. That’s all well and good when you’re fighting for a playoff spot but when you’re coming off 75 wins, changes need to be made. I’m a fairly positive guy so I do believe the Pirates aren’t super far away from being a competitive team again, but they need to do something. Whether it’s adding some players for one last chance to go for it with this current core or trading some pieces in hopes of competing in 2019 and beyond. One thing is certain, this club needs a direction.
