In our daily Wake-Up Call, we get you ready for the day with a complete look at all things Pittsburgh Pirates.
Pittsburgh Pirates Have Lots of Pitching
The Pittsburgh Pirates played their first MLB.TV game of the spring yesterday. They defeated the Toronto Blue Jays by a score of 2-1. The game featured a lot of pretty solid pitching by the Pirates, especially Chad Kuhl. Kuhl is another fifth starter candidate and did an excellent job, pitching two perfect innings to begin his spring campaign.
The other notable name to throw yesterday was Wade LeBlanc. LeBlanc threw two scoreless innings of his own and looked really good in the process. He is obviously trying to prove he deserves a bullpen spot. LeBlanc was a late arrival to the Pirates last year and pitched well. In 12 innings, he put up a 0.75ERA with a 1.98FIP. Obviously, a small sample size but definitely enough to earn an extended look in Spring Training.
More Pitching
The Pittsburgh Pirates will once again take on the Blue Jays today as Home Opener starter, Ivan Nova makes begins his 2017 season. Nova being back in a Pirates’ uniform is a surprise to many as most expected he’d take his services elsewhere. After a lengthy negotiation process, Nova signed back with Pittsburgh and the team is better for it.
There are high expectations for Nova this season as many expect him to be the veteran anchor of the starting rotation. Let’s hope he is able to continue the success he saw in his time with the Pirates last season.
