In our daily Wake-Up Call, we get you ready for the day with a complete look at all things Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Pittsburgh Pirates lost to the Milwaukee Brewers yesterday by a score of 6-2.
Tyler Glasnow started the game and took great strides, making great progress in his ongoing quest to live up to his considerable pre-majors debut hype. He posted the longest outing of his career – pitching into the seventh inning for the first time – and looked every bit the part of a burgeoning young prospect. He is figuring things out right before the eyes of many, and at the end of the day that is a good thing.
But, the team still lost. The progress seen from Glasnow was very welcomed, but would a win not have been the icing on the cake?

In a game where the Pittsburgh Pirates used a classic getaway day lineup, perhaps it should be enough that Glasnow flashed enough stuff to make solid progress. However, the Pirates are in a dogfight in the surprisingly tight NL Central. With a chance to sweep a series right before departing to the west coast to face the Los Angeles Dodgers, it would have been very nice to pack away that extra win.
At the end of the day, the Pirates won the series 2-1, and that is enough to consider the mission as accomplished heading into the series.
But when the team gets a quality start from an enigmatic young pitcher, it must do everything in its power to take home these winnable games.
