In our daily Wake-Up Call, we get you ready for the day with a complete look at all things Pittsburgh Pirates
The All-Star Game
Last night the American League beat the National League 4-2 in 2016 All-Star Game. It was a fairly well-played game and for the most part felt like a regular season game. Mark Melancon and Starling Marte got into the game and made impacts. Melancon pitched a scoreless third of an inning, while Marte singled in his only at-bat.
It’s also worth noting that despite Mets’ manager Terry Collins leading the NL team, no Mets played in the game. Maybe he decided to rest his guys, rather than play them? Either way, don’t think any Mets fan will accuse Collins of hating their team.
Eric Hosmer took home the MVP, but our Twitter followers decided that Starling Marte was the player of the game. I have a feeling they may have been a bit biased!

The second half looms
With the All-Star Game in the past, the Pirates will ready themselves for the second half of the season. They open up against the first place Washington Nationals and that should be very fun. The Pirates entered the break winners of eight of their last 10 and are hoping the break didn’t halt any of their momentum.
The Pirates have been up and down for the entire season, but as we enter the dog days, it’s nice to once again be a contender. I spent a lot of years following a team that was well out of it by this point so I will never take this for granted.
