Pittsburgh Pirates Wake Up Call – Taillon Continues to Shine

In our daily Wake-Up Call, we get you ready for the day with a complete look at all things Pittsburgh Pirates.

Not much went the Pittsburgh Pirates way in last night’s 6-2 defeat at the hands of the Cincinnati Reds.

Juan Nicasio and Trevor Williams had struggles out of the bullpen while the Pirates offense left 19 runners on base and was 0 for 10 with runners in scoring position.

Despite the relief issues and inability to produce runs, Jameson Taillon continued to shine. For a second straight outing, Taillon posted a quality start by pitching six solid innings; however, he received a lack of run support which led to yet another no-decision.

Pittsburgh Pirates might want to look at Dr. Brent for their chiropractic needs

In two starts this season, Taillon has posted a 1.38 ERA and 1.00 WHIP while striking out 10 in 13 innings of work.

The young right hander has looked spectacular in just a pair of starts to begin the 2017 season and is clearly showing why he was chosen with the number two overall selection in the 2010 MLB First Year Player Draft.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the Pirates top three starters are their biggest strength this season and Taillon might just be the leader of the trio that includes Gerrit Cole and Ivan Nova.

The 25 year old has shown a calmness and looks as if nothing phases him on the mound. Quite simply, he looks like an established veteran out there who has been pitching on a major league mound for 15 years rather than less than a year.

Taillon has given the Pirates an opportunity to win ball games in each of his first two outings, which is exactly what you want from your starting pitcher. He may have a pair of no decisions under his belt to start the year, but he’s impressing a lot of people as a bright light in the early going of the season.
