In our daily Wake-Up Call, we get you ready for the day with a complete look at all things Pittsburgh Pirates
The lost sports day
The time between the All-Star Game and the first game back is excruciating. It’s the longest few days of the baseball season as we wait for the boys of summer to return. The Pirates will get back to games that count starting Friday against the Washington Nationals. The Nationals are currently 54-36, which is good for first place in the NL East. So this series should present a nice challenge to the Buccos.
Last season the Pirates came out of the break very flat as they were swept by the Milwaukee Brewers. The Pirates will need to be sharper against a good Nationals team as they cannot afford to come out flat. They are within striking distance of the Chicago Cubs and need to keep pace because the Cubs aren’t going to play poorly forever.
Trademas
Yesterday marked the beginning of Trademas here at Pirates Breakdown and this is an all inclusive holiday. We began with an article from our fearless leader, Jason Rollison who says the Pirates should target Marc Rzepczynski.
The deadline used to be sad for the Pirates as it used to mean a good player was getting traded. It’s still exciting that the team will most likely be buyers again and looking to add a piece to put the team over the top. I spent so many years following the Pirates when they were sellers, so it’s still nifty to see the Pirates looking to add rental pieces to help push the team into the playoffs.
