In our daily Wake-Up Call, we get you ready for the day with a complete look at all things Pittsburgh Pirates.
Josh Bell’s rookie season with the Pittsburgh Pirates was filled with moments to remember. He broke records, was amongst the top rookies in most offensive categories and was an ironman at first base, playing in 159 of 162 games.
While Los Angeles Dodgers phenom Cody Bellinger edged Bell and St. Louis Cardinals newcomer Paul DeJong to be named National League Rookie of the Year Monday, the recognition Bell received was well deserved.
I mean, almost everyone could have predicted that Bellinger was going to win the annual award after the monster season he had, and with the Dodgers winning the NL pennant and advancing to the World Series. That is exactly why he won the award unanimously.
But let’s not forget the impact Bell had in 2017.
I’ve written about Bell before regarding the possibility of him winning the ROTY award and how it wasn’t so farfetched.
While voters for the award believed Bell was the third best rookie in the NL behind DeJong, fans and those who were able to watch Bell through 159 games might disagree.
Nonetheless, seeing Bell be recognized as one of the top three rookies in the NL is well deserved and should make Pirates fans proud of the man who will likely man first base for the team in years to come.
And speaking of those years to come, I’m sure Bell will have more hardware to win the in the future while providing fans with other impressive moments to remember.
