New York Mets
The biggest news in Metsland that would grab the attention of Pittsburgh Pirates fans is another flareup of Neil Walker‘s bad back. And this time, it sounds pretty serious.
Collins says Walker is dealing with a long-term back issue. Would not elaborate.

Terry Collins got a lot of Walker this year. The second baseman has posted a 2.5 WAR season in 113 games. That figure is actually second-highest among Mets batters not named Yoenis Cespedes. The club has some pieces that it can shuffle around to compensate – Asdrubal Cabrera, Wilmer Flores and Jose Reyes can all play multiple infield positions – but a team that already scores just 3.92 runs per game will now need to replace some offense. That figure is the lowest of any NL Wild Card contender.
Mets Links of Note
- Collins is nothing if not candid. Even he admits that his seat is hot.
- Steven Matz still isn’t ready, and will not come off the DL when initially expected to.
That does it for the edition of the Pittsburgh Pirates Wild Card Watch. Check back every Monday, Wednesday and Friday during the 2016 Wild Card chase for more insight as to the Pirates’ postseason rivals.
