So that was a real crappy game.
Who are you suppose to be mad at in a game like this? The Vikings did everything they could with a lot of limitations (namely: they ain’t that good) and were in a position to win this game. Frankly, they should have won this game. Several times over. But because of EVERYONE – literally, every single player on the team, even Christian Ponder somehow, probably – they amazingly crapped it all down the backs of their thighs like a long distance runner.
So who do you blame? Everyone had their part in this debacle:
– Teddy Bridgewater: Two interceptions and taking a bunch of sacks to lose yardage certainly doesn’t help the team.
– Wide receivers: Generally being poor all around, not running routes to get yourself open, and being stymied by bad play calling will all work to make you look bad.
– Offensive Line: Are you kidding.
– Linebackers: None of you are coverage linebackers, and that means that we cannot cover then.
– Cornerbacks: Look for the ball, preferably not as the ball is dropping into the other team’s hands.
– Coaches: Be more 2014, less 2013.
It was awful. But you know what? On the other side of all that crap, pretty much each one of those players or groups did something worthwhile, as well. Bridgewater kind of settled down and threw and touchdown. The offensive line went max protect at certain times and allowed Bridgewater to at least get to his second read. The defensive line was decent, aside form early missed tackles. The defense as a whole accounted for four total turnovers. I mean, you melt down in the last minute of a game and that’s what everyone remembers, but you caused four turnovers for the offense and they only turn it into like 6 points or something? That’s not the defenses fault.
So, yeah, it was pretty ugly. This was a game I counted as a win on our schedule, and one we should have won. Finishing with an 8-8 record now is going to be much harder, if not impossible, considering we are currently seventh in the NFL based on win-loss record. Sooo … Is seventh good enough for us to draft a new left tackle? Or a starting running back? Let’s hope so!
2014 sucks already.
