Player of the Week: Greg Monroe

Player of the Week: Greg Monroe

Monroe is the top performer from this week.

He’s arguably the most skilled big man that you’ve never seen play.

His name is Greg Monroe, center for the Detroit Pistons, and he dominated the NBA’s preseason for the past week.

The 6-foot-11, 250 lb Monroe averaged just less than 16 points a game against the Washington Wizards, Orlando Magic, Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Monroe got things going with a fair showing on both the offensive and defensive end against the Bulls Wednesday adding a blocked shot and steal to his six rebounds and 10 points. He added eight more rebounds and a steal against the Cavaliers while posting 16 points off a 6-15 shooting performance.

The Magic couldn’t slow down the Pistons’ big man on Sunday either. He went off for 19 points, and on the other end, he blocked two more shots and picked up another steal.

The former Georgetown Hoya decided to cap things off with his best game against the Wizards Tuesday. Monroe dropped 18 points, five assists and seven rebounds. Eight of his points came from the line, as the Wizards sent him to the line often.

The next opponent in line for Detroit is the Minnesota Timberwolves who will visit the Motor City Thursday night. Monroe will get to go up against another premier big man, Kevin Love.

Love’s last outing featured 22 points from the former UCLA Bruin against the Boston Celtics on Sunday.
