Players vote to decertify

This is a smart move. If they need it, they can force the owners not to lock them out.  Brilliant.

“When it’s explained why you’re doing it,” Saturday said, “I don’t think anyone would vote against it.”

A decertification of the players’ union could prevent NFL owners from locking out the players when the collective bargaining agreement expires in March, and it could enable the players to sue the league under antitrust laws if there is a lockout.

“This is purely a procedural matter and is a non-story until March,” NFLPA assistant executive director George Atallah told The Associated Press last week.
