Playoff Layoff For The Golden State Warriors Prior To Game 1 vs The Memphis Grizzlies

The amount of film study on the Memphis Grizzlies, the Golden State Warriors‘ opponent in the Western Conference Semifinals this season, is likely to be epic this week.

Sweeping the New Orleans Pelicans in the first round of the NBA Playoffs last Saturday left the Warriors with at least eight days of rest, with Game 1 against the Grizzlies now scheduled for this Sunday, 5/3/2015.

Getting too rusty with the long layoff is a natural concern.

“You just want to balance reps and rhythm. It’s not really a concern because the circumstances mean you’re really doing well,” head coach Steve Kerr told reporters this past Monday at the Warriors practice facility. “Any time you have a week-long break means you’re still in the playoffs, and it means you probably just handled your business.”

“It gives us like a reset button,” said Klay Thompson. “It makes us have those anxious feelings again, like we had going into Round One.”

Power forward Draymond Green, who is coming off of a Game 4 in which it was reported that he sprained his left ankle twice in the first half, maintained the middle ground.

“I think we ought to find a happy medium with getting rest, but also staying in the rhythm, keeping our conditioning where it needs to be,” Green said. “A week off it can hurt you as much as it can help you.”
