Porter v Freeney

FO on ESPN Insider looks at Freeney and Porter

Monday

Colts at Dolphins, 8:30 p.m.

Don’t expect to see much of Joseph Addai and Donald Brown on the highlights Tuesday morning, because the Colts don’t get a lot of long runs (last in the league a year ago) and the Dolphins don’t allow many (fourth in 2008).

Joey Porter and Dwight Freeney provide an interesting contrast in pass-rushing stats. Below are their totals of sacks, hits and hurries for the last three seasons. Porter may have had more sacks last year, but Freeney had far more hits and hurries, and his numbers are much more in line with his career numbers. That’s good evidence that Porter’s monster 2008 is not going to be repeated in 2009.

PORTER VS. FREENEY

When compared to Freeney, Porter’s success last year looks like an anomaly. (* — injured for half of season)
