ORACLE ARENA, OAKLAND, CA — Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry said he re-injured his bruised lower left leg tonight late in the second quarter.
“Yeah right in the same spot, playing defense,” Curry told reporters in the Warriors’ locker room after the game.
Curry was diagnosed with a shin contusion at halftime and the team announced that he would not return to the game, which the Warriors won in overtime against the Denver Nuggets, 111-108.
Head coach Luke Walton said he did not even know of the nature of Curry’s injury.
“I just saw him limping. I was talking to the staff before that if he had any pain or started limping, that we were going to take him out and let them evaluate him. They’ll probably fill me in,” Walton explained. “I haven’t really spoken to him since it happened.”
The Warriors’ players did not know the extent of the injury, either, when they took the floor at the beginning of the third quarter.
“(Curry) just didn’t come out with us on the court after halftime,” said Klay Thompson.
Walton replaced Curry with Ian Clark, who finished with 15 points, going an impressive 7-for-8 from the field.
“It’s funny, I guess whenever you hurt something, you try to play through a little bit of discomfort, just get out there. It’s usually a magnet for something to happen, so just gotta deal with it,” said Curry. “It felt pretty good. I had somewhat fresh legs and didn’t have to really compensate for anything. Just sucks that that was the (same) spot it got hit in. We’ll see how it feels Monday.”
Prior to the game, Curry seemed fine as he even made five of seven long three-point attempts in pregame shootaround from the edge of the center-court logo:

“We don’t have enough players to practice,” joked Walton, after PR director Raymond Ridder announced in the post-game press conference that the team would not practice Sunday.
Curry, who used the word “radiated” when describing the injury when it first happened against the Sacramento Kings five nights ago, seemed confident about his recovery from the re-injury, especially knowing specifically what needs to be healed.
“(I) just re-injured the same thing, so I know I’ll be alright,” said Curry. “I know exactly what it is. Just gotta let it get healthy.”
