One thing is pretty much certain – if a UFC pay-per-view doesn't have the welterweight, middleweight, light heavyweight, or heavyweight title on the line, no one is going to buy it. And with Chris Weidman's drawing power still a mystery, if he keeps the belt the middleweight class might not be able to move PPVs anymore, either. So it should come as no surprise that UFC 161 (Aldo vs Korean Zombie) and UFC 163 (Evans vs Henderson) didn't draw flies.
Dave Meltzer reports that UFC 161 sold in the neighborhood of 170,000-190,000 buys, while UFC 163 sold 35,000 less than that (135,000-155,000). Long gone are the days that even the worst UFC card would sell a minimum of 200,000 PPVs. With all the free cards on TV now, fans aren't willing to shell out their hard earned skrilla for sub-par UFC pay-per-view offerings. Luckily for the company, the rest of the year is chock full for blockbuster cards.
