Pre-game: Pop discusses Grizzlies, Anderson on game plan without Ginobili

The San Antonio Spurs (61-21) and Memphis Grizzlies (46-36) tip off in half an hour, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich spoke to the media about the Grizzlies before the game begins.

“They’ve had a great year. They’ve really improved defensively.  They’re very physical, very athletic. They’re very deep. Lionel’s doing a great job of getting them to buy in defensively and do all the dirty work. They do it at the defensive end and they also do it at the offensive end, that’s why they lead the league in paint points. (They’re) a very very rugged team.”

I went into the Spurs locker room and spoke with Spurs forward James Anderson; I asked him if the team prepared for a game plan with and without guard Manu Ginobili.

“Yeah, we did pretty much the same (plan). He was in most the drills that we did and we just went out with the game plan with everybody.”

Pre-game Notes

In the Grizzlies locker room: Marc Gasol, Mike Conley, Tony Allen and several other Grizzlies’ players we’re sitting in front of a monitor going through game film without any coaches. This looks to be a very determined, focused team.
