Give it a year, then judge. Polian this week did say in retrospect there have been some draft mistakes in recent seasons, most notably selecting left tackle Tony Ugoh in the second round in 2007. He also said had he anticipated how the offensive line would play this season, the Colts likely would have selected Rodger Saffold late in the first round this past off-season. One thought on the Ugoh selection is that when a team drafts late in the first round it’s extremely difficult to find a premier left tackle. You have to get creative and the Colts tried to do that by trading a first-rounder to move up to get Ugoh. It was a gamble that didn’t pay off, but it does speak to the difficulty of finding a franchise left tackle without a Top 10 overall selection.
