Joe @Buffalowins (3-4)- The Bills are pretty lucky to be standing here at 4-3. They could easily have the same record as the New York Jets if a few bounces didn’t go there way. They have lost four straight games against the Jets in NJ. In those four losses, Bills QBs have been sacked 18 times, the offense has committed 10 turnovers, and the margin of victory has been by 15 points. Since Ryan has been coach, the Bills have only had one WR and running back go over 100 yards in the game. Playing in NJ has to just been a house of horrors for them. Kyle Orton will be the 5th different QB to start for the Bills against the Jets since 2009. For New York, we know their passing game is pretty bad, but they have a very solid running game. The Jets are averaging 4.7 yards per carry (5th best), so, look for a lot of Chris Ivory and Chris Johnson. On defense, the Jets secondary hasn’t been as good as years past, but they still blitz the QB like crazy. That’s where I think the Bills could be in trouble. We know the offensive line has been a disaster this year. Orton has been sacked 13 times in just three starts and I think the Jets aren’t going to respect Boobie Dixon or Bryce Brown. Because of that, I see the Jets just teeing off on Orton. At least with the Jets offense, you have to respect the run and Geno does have a 300-yard game against the Bills. Anyways, I just think after an emotional win against Minnesota, this will be a let down for the Bills. 13-10, Jets.
Chris @2ITB_Buffalo (Record 2-5) I don’t remember my record and that’s probably for the best since I continue to be a laughingstock. The Bills have caught lightning in a bottle (to an extent) with Orton as their signal caller. He’s a statue back there and he can’t evade pressure at all, so that sucks. But he’s very efficient running the offense and his numbers and the record reflects that. I’m not sure this qualifies as a trap game so much as a more challenging matchup than the records may reflect. The Jets are a pretty sad sack team at this point but their defense has been good at getting to the passer but horrible in giving up points, so if Orton stays clean I have some confidence that he can find points for the Bills. There are so many factors running around my head regarding this game; Can the Bills line keep Orton upright? Can the Bills d-line contorl the point of attack? Can the Bills find any sort of run game? Can the Jets run on the Bills? Which secondary is worse? Perhaps the most glaring question in my head is if this game will come down to which quarterback is more effective or which defense keeps their offense alive long enough for a win. For some reason I think the Bills fall this week 16-13.
Mike Tracz @mtracz (Record: 4-3)- It doesn’t seem to matter how bad the Jets are or, conversely, how good the Bills are – Buffalo always seems to struggle in the Meadowlands. Indeed, the Bills are just 1-5 since 2008 on the road vs. the Jets, and the lone win (in 2009) required five Mark Sanchez interceptions and overtime to achieve. Now consider we’re talking about a Bills team that hasn’t shown much ability to outplay clearly inferior teams for four quarters, and that despite being 2-1 over the last two weeks they’re literally two plays from being 0-3 over that span. As bad as the Jets are (and they are colossally, hilariously bad), I just don’t feel good about this week./Jets 17, Bills 14
Mike Migliore @mmigliore (Record: 4-3)- There is nothing more annoying than losing to the Jets. It’s one thing to be constantly owned by a great team like the Patriots, but to keep losing to a squad that is pretty much considered to be a joke by everyone else is so humiliating. While others laugh about butt fumbles, timeouts wiping out fourth down touchdown passes, foot fetish jokes and Mark Sanchez tattoos, us Bills fans have had little to laugh about at the expense of the Jets. The 2012 Jets were awful; a complete joke that didn’t know what the hell to do at quarterback (Tebow?). They beat the Bills on opening day, 48-28.
The Bills have not won in New Jersey since 2009 and have yet to win in regulation in East Rutherford since 2007. This year, the Jets are 1-6 and falling flat on their faces against everyone. Well, here come the Bills. I don’t like this matchup at all. Maybe it’s the past history of frustrating defeats at the Meadowlands, maybe it’s the thought of Muhammad Wilkerson and Sheldon Richardson eating Anthony Dixon for lunch, maybe it’s the memory of Geno Smith and Santonio Holmes leaving burn marks on Justin Rogers last September, whatever it is, I don’t see the Bills winning this game. I expect the Bills to run for -10 yards or something like that on Sunday and for Orton to be strip sacked at least once. Percy Harvin will probably have one good game as a member of the Jets before he pisses everyone off and it will of course be this one. Rex Ryan will be laughing at us once again. (As you can tell, I’m really counting on the reverse jinx). Final score: Jets 17, Bills 14
Michael Necci- Jets -3 OVER Bills – As I walked back to the car after the Bills Vikings game last Sunday it really hit me: The Buffalo Bills just aren’t good. Sure, the defense is really good….wait..I mean the front seven of the defense is really good, everything thing else on this team is average to below average to awful. And for the 14th or 15th, (I’ve lost count) straight year, I’ve drank the kool aid only for it to turn out to be the wine that King Joffery drank at his Wedding. And for the 15th straight year injuries, penalties, shoddy QB play, turnovers, and questionable coaching have done in another Bills season. Time certainly is a flat circle around here. Even if the Jets didn’t acquire Percy Harvin, there was no way the Bills were gonna win this game. Can they? Yes of course. Will they? Hell no. Just wait until Eric Wood and whoever plays LG (It really took them THIS long to get Kraig Urbik involved? Really?) and Eric Pears who get to deal with Sheldon Richardson and Muhammad Wilkerson all day. The fever pitch march to 8-8 continues. Not only do the Jets cover, but they cover big Jets 24 Bills 10
Rich (@RDotDeuce, 3-4 Record) – I want to see the Bills win this game. I really do. But, the blitzing the Jets do worries me to no end. The “-sons” of Anarchy are a solid group on the d-line, defensive backs notwithstanding. Luckily there is a man that can help – that’s right folks, Marrone and company have unleashed #FreeKraigUrbik!…or maybe he has, since he hasn’t committed to doing so. As I said last week, my record will explode if it doesn’t happen, but the Bills need to win the next four games. If not, this staff needs to be fired into the sun. Bills 23 – Jets 16. If they leave Harvin to go deep, ignore this and join me in misery.
Sean (@Seancorleone)- My record is 3-4- The Bills head into this game coming off an emotional high after their dramatic victory over the Vikings. Last weeks performance wasn’t the greatest, but all that matters right now is the Bills are 4-3 thanks to an improbable, game winning 80 yard drive to close out week 7. For the time being, Sammy Watkins’ touchdown with 1 second left appears to have saved the Bills playoff hopes, but in order to keep those hopes alive, the Bills need to go on a bit of a winning streak here. This weeks matchup is a must win game for the Bills, and unfortunately for us, its been quite a while since the Bills have defeated the Jets on the road (2009). This opponent may be 1-6, but we have to throw the records in the trash when trying to project this game. The Jets have had a tough draw thus far this season, playing some of the league’s best quarterbacks up to this point, which is a huge reason they have the record they do. I’m not going to lie, this game makes me extremely nervous. After watching the Jets Patriots game just over a week ago, its hard not to feel this way. I’m not going to go into great detail with my prediction, but one thing the Bills need to do is be more disciplined, and for the love of God, TAKE CARE OF THE FOOTBALL! Turnovers are a killer for any team, and last week the Bills got lucky to be able to overcome their 4 turnovers against Minnesota. In the end, I just can’t pick the Jets. I refuse to do so because I hate their faces. I’m predicting the mustache-less Orton to lead the Bills to victory this week in a low scoring affair. Final score, Bills 17, Jets 13.
Luke Wachob @lukewachob (3-4) – If not for last week’s miraculous final drive to beat the lowly Vikings in Orchard Park, we would be in full doom and gloom mode right now, declaring the season over and talking about who to fire. This week the Bills will not have the benefit of playing at home and will instead be in a stadium where they have never won a game (they are 0-4 versus the Jets and 0-1 versus the Giants since MetLife opened for the 2010 season.) Add to that the fact that the Bills are facing a coach who has consistently got the better of them – to the point of humiliation in a few contests – in Rex Ryan. Oh, and the Bills won’t have Fred Jackson or CJ Spiller either. So don’t let last week’s final result or the Jets’ lousy record fool you: this is a tough one for the Bills. My main concern is that the match-ups that favor Buffalo on the offensive side of the ball (Sammy Watkins against Anybody Anywhere) won’t matter because the Jets’ interior D has the talent (and the coaching) to confuse and dominant the Bills’ interior line, which has been a wreck. Hopefully Kraig Urbik will be a major upgrade at the guard position, because especially with no blocking help from Fred in the backfield, we might see Statue Orton getting sacked a lot on Sunday. I think the Bills can keep the game close due to their own stout D, but if the offense struggles as much as I worry they will, eventually something will give. Hope for a repeat of that ugly 16-13 Fitzpatrick win in 2009, but expect our usual MetLife stinker. Bills 13, Jets 20
Mike Monaghan (3-4)- I hate the Jets, I hate Gang Green. I hate everything about them. Why do we have so much trouble with such an average team? Maybe because for the last 14 years the Bills have been average, or below average. Torrey, er Justin, um Brad… oh Geno Smith is coming off his best game as a Jet vs New England. the odds of this guy having 2 good games in a row are not in his favor. But it IS the Bills, so anything is possible. Marcell Dareus has 2 more sacks, Jerry Hughes with a sack and a forced fumble. Sammy keeps going with 7 grabs for 117 and a TD, in the end the Bills pull out a nailbitter on a last second Dan Carpenter field goal, Bills 23 Jets 20.
Brett Ludwiczak – @BLeez17 – (2-5)– The momentum from Sunday’s win will carry over to this week. Sammy and Bobby Woods find holes in the weak secondary of the Jets. The Bills get to Geno Smith early and often. It might not be not be a pretty win, but the Bills get it done. Buffalo 23 New York Jets 14
Frank @fgif (4-3) The Bills are undefeated since the city’s newest power couple (Not the Pegulas) linked up. I don’t know much about this Jets team besides the fact that they have Vick and Harvin. I’ll be on @wolfeshc’s podcast this weekend to discuss it (and some World Series action, hopefully), though. Bryce Brown is fast and Justin Rogers isn’t playing. Bills 31-Jets 13
Brad Gelber 4-3 (@BradleyGelber)- And just like that I’m above .500 on the season just like the Buffalo Bills. I actually was at the Ralph Sunday and what an insane final drive. I haven’t experienced anything like that since the Sabres had a few draft OT victories in the playoffs a few years back. As we all know Sunday’s game ended CJ Spiller’s season and knocked Fred Jackson out a few weeks. I know Boobie Dixon will be reliable and I’m curious to see what Bryce Brown will so, BUT without FJ moving the chains when the offense has absolutely nothing else going… I’m scared to see how many more turnovers Kyle Orton gets trying to force the ball in Sammy’s hands. I know this is the first time a 1-6 team is favored over a team with a winning record and it actually agree with it. What a monumental letdown this would be. Buffalo won’t be a fun place on Monday. Bills 13, Jets 23
