Premier Boxing Champions on NBC Picks

Light Heavyweight Bout: Andrzej Fonfara (28-3) vs. Joe Smith Jr. (21-1)

Luke Irwin: Clearly just a showcase for the hometown light heavyweight, Fonfara, in a city and arena in which he’s fought in many, many times. Unfortunately, since it’s on NB-freaking-C, I had hoped PBC would put on a competitive card with top names, but alas, we’re not getting that. Fonfara via R7 TKO.

Nolan Howell: Not gonna put much thought into this one because anyone who knows boxing knows what this is. If you’re just a casual, go look at the betting line. Fonfara styles here. Fonfara by fourth/round TKO.

Premier Boxing Champions on NBC Picks

WBA/IBO Bantamweight Championship: Juan Carlos Payano (17-0) (c) vs. Rau’shee Warren (13-1)

Luke: This is a rematch of their last bout which was a split-decision win for Payano. Payano didnt look anything like the fighter who fiinished Anselmo Moreno in that fight and may have taken Warren too easy. I don’t think he makes that mistake again. Payano via R8 TKO.

Nolan: Lighter weight classes in boxing can be interesting as there sometimes isn’t enough depth to really coddle talents. Warren is the Olympian here and I think has both the intangibles and the technique to eek out a close one. Warren by unanimous decision.

Middleweight Bout: Daniel Sandoval (38-3) vs. Erickson Lubin (14-0)

Luke: Cut-and-paste up-and-comer vs. cagey veteran matchup here. Lubin via UD.

Nolan: You can copy and paste and change names here with my first pick. Erickson Lubin by unanimous decision.

Middleweight Bout: Hugo Centeno Jr. (24-0) vs. Maciej Sulecki (22-0)

Luke: Pretty even bout, but Sulecki is riding a lot of momentum, leaving the comfort of Poland and fighting in major U.S. cities in the ring with hard-nosed veterans like Daryl Cunningham and Derrick Findley. Like the Pole here. Sulecki via UD.
