Preseason Game #4: Five things to look for in Saints at Packers

johnholmes

The Saints are 0-3 in preseason and save a monster first half against the Patriots they have looked atrocious. They’ve also played their starters a limited amount of snaps. Don’t expect that to change against the Packers as we’ll see fringe players attempt to make the bottom end of the 53 man roster. Here’s 5 things I’m looking for:

1. No serious injuries.

I thought the last game at face value looked like a positive one. Besides the Vinnie Sunseri injury which looked serious, I thought the Saints escaped unscathed. Then I found out Keenan Lewis is out 4-6 weeks. So at this point, PLEASE, no more injuries to key players. Hopefully no key players will play.

2. Kicker battle

This one has come down to the wire and the kicks in this game will probably cement it. I still think Dustin Hopkins has a narrow lead but Zach Hocker still has a chance with a strong performance.

3. Receivers

I think besides the two obvious ones, Coleman, Snead and Joe Morgan are in. I think Seantavius Jones and Josh Morgan are out. That could change based on how this game goes. It will be interesting to see how this battle shakes out.

4. Ryan Griffin – does he have any hope left?

Playing with 40 seconds left only against the Texans was a death sentence for Griffin, in my opinion. I think he’s done. Anything short of a 250 yard passing performance with 4 TD’s probably seals his fate. He’ll need the game of his life to make this team. I’m looking forward to seeing Grayson play more, too, as he could be the QB of the future.

5. Can the Saints win just one preseason game?

I really don’t care about preseason game results. But 0-4 is pretty demoralizing. Leaving Green Bay with a win regardless of how they look could lift the spirits a bit. I’d really like to see the Saints come out of this with a W and not go winless in the preseason.
