Three questions to ponder
1. How much energy will the Kings have on the back end of a back-to-back?
The Kings conclude their lone back-to-back set of the preseason against the Suns. They play 17 back-to-backs this upcoming year and tonight could be a good test to see how they respond in such situations.
2. Who thrives off the Kings’ bench tonight?
Considering this match-up is the second of two games in two nights, the Kings reserves could find themselves getting some heavy minutes. The last time these two met in game one of the preseason, Thomas Robinson, Jimmer Fredette and James Johnson had prime performances off the Kings’ bench. However, Marcus Thornton has played as a reserve in three of the Kings’ five exhibitions. He’s performed well so far as a sixth man.
3. Will we see anything out of Tyler Honeycutt or the roster invites?
The preseason is winding down and the Kings have decisions to make on their final roster. After playing during a critical stretch in last night’s seven-point win over the Lakers, so far Hamady Ndiaye is the only roster invite to earn meaningful minutes. Honeycutt just began practicing in full contact a few days ago, which puts him a step behind his teammates. Meanwhile, Willie Reed and Tony Mitchell have been limited to garbage time minutes. With the Kings playing their second game in as many nights, this could be an opportunity for Keith Smart to offer an extended look to the players on the fringe of making this year’s team.
