Preseason Recap: Lightning 2 – Panthers 0

The future of the Lightning franchise was on display again in Tampa’s second preseason game.  A few veteran names like Brian Boyle, Jason Garrison, and Cedric Paquette were in the line up for the first time as they hosted the Florida Panthers.

Kristers Gudlevskis got the start in net and played the full 60 minutes. The Latvian netminder earned a shutout victory, stopping all 21 shots he faced.

The first period ended scoreless but that doesn’t mean the Bolts weren’t tested. Special teams were called upon early as they took three late penalties, including a lengthy 5-on-3. The penalty kill crew was up to the task and kept the game scoreless.

Jeremy Morin opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at 3:51 of the second period. Brayden Point would widen the lead at 14:31 of the third. Morin and Michael Bournival would register assists on Point’s goal.

With a number of players already returned to their respective teams, this game offered a good look at the guys who will make up the Syracuse Crunch roster for the year to come. It was a solid, well played effort that is great news after a couple rough seasons for Tampa’s AHL affiliate.

The Bolts hit the road to take on the Carolina Hurricanes tomorrow evening in Raleigh at 7:30 PM.
