Wolves preseason record: 1-5
Al Jefferson isn’t at Pepsi Center for tonight’s game against the Nuggets, but Kurt Rambis said his absence is because Jefferson isn’t feeling well — cold/flu-like symptoms — rather than that Achilles tendon issue.
With Kevin Love out likely until December and Al Jefferson ill at the team’s hotel, Rambis turned to an improvised starting lineup against the Nuggets that included Oleksiy Pecherov at center and was anything but the bit of fine-tuning he had hoped it’d be.
“It’s obviously changed our plans,” Rambis said. “We’re not going to have our normal starting lineups. We’re not going to have our normal rotations. But these things come up all the time and coaches have to deal with this all the time.”
Instead of Jefferson at center and Love at power forward, Rambis surrounded Pecherov, a perimeter player with 7-foot center height, with starting forwards Ryan Gomes and Damien Wilkins.
From the Associated Press:
Corey Brewer led the Timberwolves with 23 points, Ryan Gomes had 16 and rookie Jonny Flynn scored 13.
