Happy Thursday Cougs!!!

I hope you’re enjoying the start to fall camp as much as I am.  Cougar Football is BACK!!! However, this morning I thought I’d take a break from the hubbub surrounding fall camp and fill you in on a couple of other cougar tidbits that may have slipped through the cracks.  Click on the jump to read more…

First, I believe a congratulations are in order for the Abdullah’s, brothers Hamza and Husain, for being invited to the White House for the annual Iftar dinner.  Iftar is the meal where muslims break their fast for the month of Ramadan.  The annual dinner at the White House was started under the Bill Clinton administration and continued under George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

Last night, the pair of former Cougar-turned-NFL safeties spent the evening chumming it up with President Obama and other dignitaries.  I’m sure they were quite the hit with Obama, being the NFL fan that he is.  Then again, also being an avid Bears fan, he may not have been too excited about letting a guy who wears purple in his crib.  I don’t blame him one bit. But I digress…

Here’s a couple of good links about the invitations and how the two deal with fasting right smack dab in the middle of training camp.  Husain was surprised about the invitation, however his wife wasn’t as enthusiastic.  Hamza thought the invitation was a joke.  In this article, the Vikings’ nutritionist explains how they plan out a diet for an NFL player who can’t eat or drink during daylight.

In other news, in case you missed it, the Cougs landed another commit!!! This time in the form of big body B.J. Salmonson from Everson, WA.  Salmonson plays at the 1-A level, so interest in him was very minimal.  However, you need to look no farther than our starting left guard (John Fullington) to see Paul Wulff’s success in recruiting small school in-state big men.  Salmonson earned himself an offer last week after solid showings at the Jason Guesser camp and WSU summer youth camp.  He becomes the 11th known commit in the 2012 class.

I found this article from Cougcenter on Salmonson’s commit to be quite amusing.  The author pleads with his readers to stop using “beef references” when talking about big players.  I would like to announce that, Kyle from CougCenter, I am officially joining your movement.  I never understood the reference, and frankly, I find it kind of disturbing referring to a lineman recruit as a slab of cow.  Nonetheless, hopefully this is the first of many big boys to jump on board before February.

Finally, WSUfootballblog would like to extend some get well wishes to Bobo Brayton.  If you didn’t hear, Bobo was involved in an ATV accident at his ranch outside of Pullman and was initially listed in serious condition.  He has since been upgraded to serious-but-stable condition. Here’s to a quick recovery Bobo!

We’ll have more coverage on fall camp so be sure to check in later.  GO COUGS!!!!
