Game Notes

  • “Carmelo Anthony (sore right shoulder) and Derrick Rose (sore lower back) will both be unavailable tonight at Warriors” — Knicks PR
  • Kevin Durant on Kristaps Porzingis’ “unicorn” nickname: “Yeah, I’m taking full credit for that one”
    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wt7hzYwBOp0&w=560&h=315]
  • Durant on defense vs various Knicks from Porzingis to Melo to Noah: “I got my work cut out for me”
    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHcniRdfG_Y&w=560&h=315]
  • Durant on NYK: “Brandon Jennings is playing great basketball. One of the best backups in the league”

  • The Warriors live off little pockets of offensive air. That’s all they need to get off a deadly shot or knife backdoor for an easy dunk. Pachulia has a tough time finishing off plays at the rim, but he’s extremely helpful in the creation of those pockets and avenues for others. When he’s on the court, 76.1 percent of Golden State’s baskets are assisted, the highest on the team. When he’s off, it dips below 70. — Anthony Slater, The Mercury News
  • The Warriors might not see point guard Derrick Rose, who had to leave the Knicks’ game Tuesday at Phoenix with back spasms, but Brandon Jennings has been a high-energy backup. Carmelo Anthony is always a threat to score 30 or more. Justin Holiday, who averaged 11 minutes a game off the Warriors’ bench two seasons ago, is getting a lot of time. And there’s always the flamboyant Walt Frazier, an all-time NBA great working the Knicks’ telecasts, with his garish assortment of sport coats. Focus mostly, though, on Porzingis, a power forward eventually to replace Joakim Noah at center. The Knicks are going to him for big shots down the stretch, and he was 4-for-4 from three-point range against the Suns, one of them giving the Knicks a 108-105 lead in overtime. — Bruce Jenkins, San Francisco Chronicle
