NBC Sports airs plenty of figure skating and will air Skate Canada this weekend.
SKATE CANADA COVERAGE ON NBC SPORTS & UNIVERSAL SPORTS THIS WEEKEND FROM KITCHENER, ONTARIO
Universal Sports to Provide Coverage Throughout the Competition
NEW YORK – Nov. 19, 2009- NBC Sports and Universal Sports present almost nine hours of coverage this weekend of the 2009 Skate Canada, the sixth stop of the 2009 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series this weekend from Kitchener, Ontario. Skaters from Team USA will compete against athletes from 14 other countries, all vying for points and prize money and ultimately spots representing their country at the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games. Coverage on NBC Sports begins Sunday at 2 p.m. ET and coverage on Universal Sports begins Friday at 8:00 p.m. ET.
NBC Sports will broadcast two hours of coverage featuring the Men's and Ladies Free Skate. Universal Sports will carry live coverage of the Men's and Pairs finals and the Men's, Ladies and Pairs short programs.
COMMENTATORS: NBC Sports Olympic figure skating broadcast team of Scott Hamilton, Andrea Joyce and David Pelletier will call the action.
LADIES: Reigning U.S. champion Alissa Czisny has earned three medals in the Grand Prix Series, including the bronze at this event last season. Joining Czisny is the 2008 U.S. champion, Mirai Nagasu, who is competing in her second season in the Grand Prix Series. Reigning U.S. bronze medalist Caroline Zhang, also a two-time World Junior silver medallist, returns to Skate Canada after placing fifth last season.
MEN: Reigning U.S. champion Jeremy Abbott will compete at Skate Canada for the second time in attempts to top his eighth place standing from when he competed back in 2007. Joining Abbott is Stephen Carriere, the 2008 U.S. bronze medalist, who is making his first Skate Canada appearance. The 2008 Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final silver medallist, Armin Mahbanoozadeh, is hoping to earn a medal in his debut season of the Grand Prix series.
PAIRS: Reigning U.S. silver medalists Caydee Denney and Jeremy Barrett made their Grand Prix Series debut this season at the NHK Trophy, where they finished fourth. It is the first Grand Prix Series event of the season for Caitlin Yankowskas & John Coughlin, who won gold at Ice Challenge in Graz, Austria, earlier this month.
ICE DANCING: Reigning U.S. silver medalists Emily Samuelson and Evan Bates took fourth at Trophée Bompard last month. This is the first Skate Canada appearance for the 2008 World Junior champions, who last season won bronze at the NHK Trophy and placed fourth at Skate America. Competing alongside Samuleson and Bates will be the 2008 U.S. junior champions Madison Hubbell and Keiffer Hubbell. These 2006 Junior Grand Prix Final champions placed eighth in their Grand Prix debut at Trophée Eric Bompard in October.
UNIVERSAL SPORTS COVERAGE: Universal Sports, available in more than 56 million homes, will broadcast 8 ½ hours of same day coverage of Skate Canada from Kitchener, Ontario. Details below (all times ET):

NBC also airs one of those figure skating specials that it has become known for. This one involves Motown legend Smokey Robinson.
SMOKEY ROBINSON TRIBUTE ON ICE THIS SUNDAY ON NBCNEW YORK – November 19, 2009- Soul legend Smokey Robinson provides the musical background for "Smokey Robinson Tribute on Ice" at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Fla. this Sunday at 4 p.m. ET. His classics include "My Girl," "You've Really Got A Hold On Me," "The Tears of a Clown," "I Second That Emotion" and "The Tracks of My Tears."
Among the skating stars featured this weekend are three-time U.S. Champion and two-time World bronze medalist Michael Weiss, 1996 World Champion and six-time U.S. National Champion Todd Eldredge, 2008 World Champion and 2006 Olympic bronze medalist Jeffrey Buttle and eight-time British National Champion and three-time Olympian Steven Cousins
Hosting the event are Peggy Fleming and Andrea Joyce.
Before CBS’ airing of college football on Saturday, CBS Sports Spectacular airs some fishing competition.

This year’s event moves from a team format to an individual competition and combines the conservation aspects of Lake Conroe’s slot limits with certified observers and on-the-water scales, allowing anglers to weigh fish normally not allowed on a slot-limit lake.
