Prime Time NFL Draft – is it really worth it?

Will you actually take time out of your Thursday night to watch the 1st round of the NFL draft?

Well if you believe what the draft guru’s like Todd McShay and Mel “The hair” Kiper Jr. say, then there is no need to actually watch right. Ok so it is fun to read the mock drafts especially if your team has an early pick. Our good friends here in Columbia, are giant Cleveland Browns fans, they take the draft pretty serious. They are members of the Columbia Brown Backers Club and will actually meet tonight to watch the draft at a local bar here in town. No surprise as they meet every Sunday during the season and pre-season to watch their team. I guess us here in the south must be missing something, where college football rules the roost. With no Gamecocks likely to be picked in the first round and the only person likely to go in the 1st round with South Carolina ties being a tater in C.J. Spiller, I think I am going to have to pass on watching the draft.

Especially since Don Banks of Si.com has already told me that Sam Bradford will go first to the Rams, Suh to the Lions and Gerald McCoy to Tampa Bay. There I just saved myself 30 minutes tonight.

As a sports fan the NFL draft is always the best time to read the big websites (ESPN, Foxsports, SI.com). They will list out the 10 biggest busts in the draft over the last five years, or the 10 best draft steals over the past 5 years. Well this year’s big player debate has fallen to Tim Tebow, will he turn out to be the next Ryan Leaf, or the next Tom Brady. I have personally seen Tebow play in numerous games against USC, and think he would be a pretty decent NFL QB. The rumor I just heard on the radio is that a new station contacted his father Bob Tebow and they already know where he will be drafted tonight. The only three logical places I can think of are to the Jacksonville Jaguars at the 10th pick, Minnesota Vikings at the 30th pick or to Denver. How cool would it for Sidney Rice to have Tebow throwing the ball to him for the next couples years.

I am sure there will be a couple surprise in the draft, but the Tebow pick will be one talked about and debated until he either becomes a star or a bust. So if you were already sick of the Tebow hype, it can only get worst from here.
