Were any Patriots snubbed from the 2014 Pro-Bowl?
Kyle: The only snub I can think of is Dont’a Hightower. He has been a force inside- a game changer that it is glaring Jerod Mayo is not. Mayo makes a bunch of tackles, but Hightower makes impact plays. Beyond Hightower, there is no other Patriot who was snubbed. Let’s hope that none of the Pro Bowl talk matters and that the Pats are playing in Glendale Super Bowl Sunday, rather than the weekend before.
Rick: There were many Patriots that got snubbed for a trip to the Pro Bowl in Arizona such as safety Devin McCourty and linebacker Jamie Collins, but I want to focus on Don’ta Hightower. For the second straight year, Hightower had to replace Jerod Mayo at that middle linebacker position in mid-season. With more games he has played at that position, the third year linebacker has gained more confidence. He has six sacks this season, a career-high. With the loss of Chandler Jones for a time during this season, they have needed Hightower’s pass rush.
Raj: Most of the Pro Bowl selections were pretty fair. We got what we wanted in the QB, TE, K, CB, and ST slot with Brady, Gronkowski, Gostkowski, Revis, and Slater. Everyone else on the Patriots have been doing well but not better than certain players on other teams (i.e: Browner vs. Joe Haden). However, I feel Devin McCourty was snubbed of a Pro Bowl spot. He hasn’t been popular this season but he has played some excellent football. My Rutgers bias will probably kick in here (because hell, I’m a Rutgers student so it’s hard not to) but D-Mac is way more deserving of a spot than certain safeties. Are you seriously telling me that Tashaun Gipson (who??) and Glover Quinn (a horrible defender in general) deserve a spot over D-Mac? Please..that was injustice at the highest level. I agree with Earl Thomas and Eric Weddle being picked but McCourty deserves a spot. He’s a force at his position.
Derek: Honestly, I didn’t think there were any major snubs. Julian Edelman has been fantastic this season and would probably be my leading candidate for someone who deserved a nod. You could also make a case for Devin McCourty or Dont’a Hightower, but they weren’t the type of omissions that make you pound your fist on the table and scream out the injustice. Chandler Jones missed too much time. Jamie Collins has come on strong as of late, but wasn’t as big of a force early on in the year.
