There were very few professional athletes from Florida State in action this week, but the ones who were made an impact. Though his team was unable to get a victory during the NFL’s Wild Card weekend, Arizona Cardinals’ cornerback Antonio Cromartie earns Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week for the week of December 29th through January 4th.
In Saturday’s 27-16 loss to the Carolina Panthers, Cromartie recorded four tackles, two passes defended and an interception that looked to possibly change the game. With Arizona trailing 10-7 in the second quarter, Cromartie intercepted a pass from Panthers’ quarterback Cam Newton and returned it 50 yards to the Carolina 17-yard-line.
The Cardinals took a 14-10 lead four plays later, but unfortunately for Cromartie, the Arizona offense was unable to score again. The Cardinals managed just 78 total yards in the loss.
The interception for Cromartie was his first in postseason play since 2007 when he was a member of the San Diego Chargers. During the regular season, Cromartie recorded 43 tackles, 3 interceptions and a fumble recovery while helping Arizona go 11-5 and earn their first playoff berth since 2009.
