With San Francisco Giants’ catcher Buster Posey hitting .400 this postseason and Antone Smith continuing to make big plays for the Atlanta Falcons, coming up with a Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week for the week of September 29th through October 5th was not easy, but this week’s honor goes to a foreign-born NFL player that had a career-day.

Entering Sunday, former Florida State defensive end and German-born Bjoern Werner had just 2.5 career sacks. The Indianapolis Colts’ outside linebacker had recorded just eight combined tackles through the first four weeks of the regular season, but was a force to be reckoned with on Sunday.

In a 20-13 victory over the Baltimore Ravens, Werner finished with a career-high six tackles and two sacks including one on the final drive of the game for Baltimore. After the career-day, Werner is now tied for the Colts’ team-lead in sacks.

Werner will look to build on his breakthrough performance as Indianapolis visits the Houston Texans on Thursday in a battle for first place in the AFC South.
