For a second straight week, the Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week honor comes from Major League Baseball and for the second straight week, it goes to San Francisco Giants’ catcher Buster Posey.

Posey is the top professional athlete from Florida State for the week of June 23rd through the 29th. Posey hit .391 for the week, going 9-for-23 at the plate with three RBIs. In a 4-0 win over the San Diego Padres on Wednesday, Posey was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a double and a pair of runs driven in.

Posey increased his batting average by 10 points this week and has watched it balloon by nearly 40 points since the end of May. Posey and the Giants are tied for first place with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West, but the former FSU catcher’s .293 batting average is second among National League backstops.

With the second half of the season underway, Posey is making a strong push to be selected to the National League All-Star team. It would be Posey’s third straight selection.
