The 2015 Major League Baseball season is underway and a number of former Florida State players have made an impact. Devon Travis’ first career hit was a home run at Yankee Stadium, but this week’s top professional athlete from FSU is the most accomplished current big leaguer to have played his college ball in Tallahassee.
San Francisco Giants’ catcher Buster Posey is the Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week for the week of April 6th through the 12th after a solid start to the season.
In seven games for the defending world champions, Posey hit .292 with a pair of home runs and 4 RBIs. Posey was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate in Tuesday’s 7-6 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks and had two of San Francisco’s five hits in a 1-0 loss to the San Diego Padres on Friday.
Though the Giants are off to just a 3-4 start, Posey has an on-base percentage of .400 and leads the team in home runs and RBIs. His three runs scored ranks second on the team to Nori Aoki.
Despite being 3-4 and in last place, the Giants are just a game and a half back of the Colorado Rockies in the National League West. San Francisco will face Colorado on Monday in its home opener.
