It was a tough week for Florida State on the baseball diamond as the Seminoles managed just eight total runs in their series with Clemson, but for a former Seminole catcher, supplying offense was not a problem.
The Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week for the week of May 11th through the 17th is San Francisco Giants’ catcher Buster Posey, who homered twice and drove in seven runs in six games.
For the week, Posey hit .286, going 8-for-28 with four runs scored. Posey drove in all three San Francisco runs in a 4-3 loss to the Houston Astros on Wednesday. Posey singled home a run in the first before belting a 2-run home run in the fifth.
Posey also hit a 2-run home run in Friday’s 10-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds. In an 11-2 victory over the Reds the following night, Posey went 2-for-4 with a run and RBI.
For the season, Posey is hitting .287 with 6 home runs and 18 RBIs. His six blasts is tops among National League catchers and the former Seminole ranks second among N.L. backstops with 17 runs scored. Through 38 games, the Giants are 20-18.
