It was not a great weekend to be a Seminole as both Florida State’s baseball and softball programs were eliminated in the NCAA Tournament. In the professional ranks, former Florida State guard Toney Douglas advanced to his first NBA Finals as the Miami Heat took down the Indiana Pacers. The top professional athlete from FSU for the week of May 26th through June 1st however, comes from the Arena Football League.
Former Florida State cornerback Clevan Thomas is this week’s Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week after recording five tackles and an interception for the San Jose Sabercats on Saturday night. Thomas’ stellar performance did come in a losing effort as the Sabercats fell to the undefeated Arizona Rattlers, 51-42.
Thomas’ interception was his sixth of the season which is tied for sixth in the AFL. Thomas played for Florida State from 1997-2000 and recorded three interceptions as a member of the 1999 national championship team. Thomas recorded each of his five career interceptions over his final two seasons in Tallahassee.
