While former Florida State golfer Brooks Koepka was winning the Waste Management Phoenix Open last week, fellow former Seminole Daniel Berger finished in the top 10. This week, the 21-year-old Berger put forward another strong performance at the Farmers Insurance Open in San Diego.
Berger is the Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week for the week of February 2nd through the 8th for a strong showing in what was just his 10th PGA Tour event.
For the tournament, Berger shot a 285, finishing -3 and in 24th place on the par 72 course. After a sluggish 3rd round on Saturday, Berger finished strong, shooting a 70 in Sunday’s final round.
Throughout the tournament, Berger averaged 298 yards per drive and finished with 13 birdies and an eagle compared to 12 bogeys. Berger ranks 12th in driving distance on the PGA Tour this season and is the youngest player in the top 15 in that statistic. Koepka is the Tour’s leader, averaging 315 yards per drive.
After missing the cut in his first two events this season, Berger has finished under par and in the top 25 in three of his last four events earning in excess of $300,000 over that span.
