Opening Day for Major League Baseball is finally here and this week’s top professional athlete from Florida State is a guy who will make his big league debut on Monday.
The Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week for the week of March 30th through April 5th is Toronto Blue Jays’ second baseman Devon Travis.
Travis went 4-for-10 in four Grapefruit League games this week with a run and a RBI. The best game of the week for Travis was a 2-for-2 effort on Saturday in 9-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds at Olympic Stadium in Montreal.
More important than Travis’ strong finish to the spring was him being named Toronto’s starting second baseman. Travis finishes the spring hitting .359, which topped Toronto hitters who have at least 13 at-bats this spring.
Travis will make his big league debut and first career start on Monday afternoon in Yankee Stadium as the Blue Jays square off against the New York Yankees.
