His Major League Baseball career may be just two weeks old, but one rookie from Florida State is making his presence felt at the big league level.
Toronto Blue Jays’ second baseman Devon Travis is the Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week for the third time in five weeks. Travis earns the honor for the week of April 13th through the 19th.
Through 13 games, the Blue Jays are 6-7, but Travis leads the team in virtually every offensive category. Travis tops the team in batting average, home runs, RBIs, on-base percentage, slugging percentage and is tied for the team-lead in hits.
In seven games this past week for Toronto, Travis hit .400, going 10-for-25 with two home runs, 5 RBIs and three runs scored. Travis raised his batting average by over 50 points in the process. He did leave Sunday’s 5-2 loss to the Atlanta Braves with a rib contusion and is listed as day-to-day.
Travis is not only Toronto’s statistical leader, but he is among the top 10 in the American League in average, hits, homers, runs, and RBIs in which he ranks third with 12 for the season. For the year, Travis is hitting .356.
