The Major League Baseball season hit its unofficial midway point this past week with the All-Star Game. Former Florida State catcher Buster Posey, now of the San Francisco Giants, got the start for the National League but a number of other minor leaguers from FSU also had great weeks.
The Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week for the week of July 13th through the 19th goes to minor league pitcher Luke Weaver, who is currently playing in the St. Louis Cardinals’ organization.
Pitching for the Class-A Advanced Palm Beach Cardinals, Weaver worked 7 2/3 scoreless innings in a 2-0 victory over the Clearwater Threshers on Thursday. Weaver earned the win, allowing just three hits and no walks while striking out eight.
Weaver holds just a 3-4 record for the year, but has a solid 2.17 ERA. Weaver has allowed just one total run over his last three starts.

John Nogowski, 1B (Minor Leagues)
In six games for the Class-A Advanced Stockton Ports, Nogowski went 7-for-22 with a pair of home runs and five RBIs. Nogowski is hitting .261 this season for the Oakland Athletics’ California League affiliate.
Buster Posey, C San Francisco Giants (MLB)
After going 0-for-2 in the All-Star Game, San Francisco Giants’ catcher Buster Posey began the second half on the right foot, going 5-for-12 in three games with five runs batted in.
Scott Sitz, P (Minor Leagues)
In two appearances this past week for the Class-A Advanced Lakeland Flying Tigers, Scott Sitz threw a combined five scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and no walks while striking out six. Sitz is 2-1 with a 3.25 ERA this season in the Detroit Tigers’ organization.
