It was again a big week for former Florida State players lining up on the defensive side of the football in the NFL. Telvin Smith led the league in tackles for a second straight week while Lawrence Timmons came up with 11 stops and Tony Carter scored a defensive touchdown. The Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week however, goes to New York Giants’ cornerback Mike Harris.
Harris earns honors for the week of December 22nd through the 28th for his performance in New York’s 34-26 loss to Philadelphia on Sunday. Harris recorded a game-high 10 tackles, which isn’t always a great thing for a cornerback, but he also added a pass break-up and his first interception of the season and only second of his career.
Harris’ second quarter interception of Philadelphia quarterback Mark Sanchez set up a New York field goal, which cut the Eagles’ lead to 14-13. The Giants hung tough into the fourth quarter, but ultimately fell by 8 points.
The Giants finish the season just 6-10, but Harris played well as the season went on. He finishes his third NFL season with 20 tackles, a sack and an interception.
